Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTFrench power utility Engie SA (EPA:ENGI) is acquiring off-grid solar solutions provider Mobisol seeking to expand its decentralised energy services in Africa.
Mobisol, Berlin-based but with operations in Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya, has installed more than 150,000 solar home systems in Sub-Saharan Africa. According to Engie, Mobisol’s activities reached over 750,000 people, providing them with clean and reliable energy.
The acquisition, to be closed after pertinent approvals are in place, will allow Engie to move into three new African markets. The company’s solar home systems unit Fenix International is already present in Uganda, Zambia, Nigeria, Benin, Ivory Coast and Mozambique.
Mobisol is focused mostly on productive use appliances, which Engie intends to pair with inclusive home solar power systems by Fenix to expand its customer base from rural to urban areas and offer a wider range of affordable energy products.
