Italian oil and gas group Eni SpA (BIT:ENI) on Wednesday held a ceremony to inaugurate its 48-MW Badamsha 2 wind farm in Kazakhstan’s Aktobe Region.

Carried out by the company’s fully owned local subsidiary Arm Wind LLP, the project began commercial operation in September 2021, having started construction about a year earlier, Eni said.

The wind power plant adds to Eni’s Badamsha 1 wind farm, also of 48 MW, in the Aktobe Region, which was brought online in early 2020. The new facility uses 4.8-MW turbines, the largest so far in the country, according to the announcement, and is expected to generate up to 200 GWh a year.

Eni was awarded Badamsha 2 wind farm in an auction managed by the Kazakh Ministry of Energy. In a separate auction in late 2019, the Italian company also secured a 50-MW solar project in the Turkestan Region, which, it said, is now under construction.

Arm Wind is part of Eni gas e luce - Plenitude, which targets over 6 GW of renewables capacity by 2025 and over 15 GW by 2030.
