Envision seals PPA for 55-MW wind project in Bangladesh

Shanghai-based green tech company Envision Energy has sealed a power purchase agreement (PPA) that underpins the construction of a 55-MW wind farm in Bangladesh.

The contract was signed with Bangladesh's state-owned utility Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). Under its terms, the utility will buy the future plant’s entire output at a levelised tariff of USD 0.132 (EUR 0.133) per kWh for 20 years, Envision said on Thursday.

The Mongla wind park is planned to be installed at Mongla, in the Bagerhat district of southwestern Bangladesh. The plant will be equipped with Envision's 171-4.5 MW turbines, which are expected to generate electricity that will offset 110,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually. Commercial operations are due to be launched by 2024.

Mongla will be one of the largest wind farms in Bangladesh, along with the Cox’s 60-MW Bazar plant, which is also powered by Envison hardware and is due to start feeding electricity into the grid by December.

"Our partnership with BPDB further establishes Envision's footprint and demonstrates our commitment to the country,” said George Wang, vice president of Envision Energy.

Bangladesh aims to have 4.1 GW of renewable power generation capacity by 2030.
