Envision to equip ACWA's 1-GW wind project duo in Uzbekistan

Envision to equip ACWA's 1-GW wind project duo in Uzbekistan Envision wind farm in China

Shanghai-based green technology company Envision Energy on Tuesday said it has secured a deal to deliver turbines for 1 GW of wind projects under development in Uzbekistan by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power.

Under the contract, Envision will equip the Bash and Dzhankeldy wind projects in the Bukhara region of southwestern Uzbekistan with its EN171-6.5 machines. Each of the two plans will use 79 wind turbines, which will have a combined output estimated at some 3,235 GWh annually.

Power purchase agreements (PPAs) are in place with government-owned National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan for 25 years.

The two wind projects will be implemented with financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), DEG, Proparco, the OPEC Fund, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and others. In April, ACWA Power obtained a USD-174-million debt package from the ADB, while at end-2022 the EBRD arranged two syndicated loans worth a total of USD 520 million.

The schemes will support Uzbekistan in meeting its goal of adding 5 GW of wind power capacity by 2030.
