Japan's Renova postpones operation start for 75-MW biomass plant again
Sep 09, 2024 8:56 CESTUS wood pellets supplier Enviva Partners LP (NYSE: EVA) yesterday announced a partnership with Electric Power Development Co (TYO:9513), operating as J-Power, for the supply of wood biomass for the Japanese company's coal-fired power plants in Japan.
Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two companies, they will work to design a plan for Enviva to build new infrastructure to produce and deliver up to 5 million metric tonnes of sustainable wood pellets to permanently replace coal in J-Power’s existing facilities.
J-Power's coal-fired power capacity amounts to 8.4 GW. Together with Enviva, the company will work to re-purpose the facilities into both dedicated and co-fired biomass plants. The planned conversion of existing coal-fired power plants to biomass facilities will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 80% for each site.
The MoU is part of J-Power's plan to become carbon-neutral by 2050.
