ABP presents plan to turn Port of Barrow into renewables hub
Sep 18, 2024 14:41 CEST(ADPnews) – Oct 7, 2010 - E.ON UK, a unit of Germany multi-utility E.ON (FRA:EOAN), said yesterday it has placed into service its 10 MW Haswell Moor wind farm near Haswell Plough in County Durham.
The project comprises five turbines, each with a rated capacity of 2 MW, which will generate electricity sufficient to meet the needs of some 5,500 households a year.
“The wind farm will help displace around 11,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year of its operational life, which is great news for the environment,” said Richard Couzens, E.ON's Construction Project Manager for the project.
Meanwhile, E.ON continues work on its Butterwick Moor wind farm, near Sedgefield, also in County Durham. The first turbine is expected to start generating power later this month. When operational, the 10-turbine wind farm will produce enough electricity to power more than 11,000 homes annually.
E.ON UK has a fleet of 20 wind farms located from Cambridgeshire to Kintyre. The company owns and operates one of the UK's largest dedicated biomass power stations at Lockerbie. It plans to lower the carbon released by each kW of electricity it produces by 10% between 2005 and 2012, having already reduced it by 20% since 1990.
E.ON Group has set aside EUR 8 billion (USD 11bn) between 2007 and 2012 for renewable generation and climate protection activities.
