E.ON Energie Romania, a unit of German energy utility E.ON, said on Monday that it is constructing a 764.4 kilowatts peak (kWp) solar power plant worth over 430,000 euro ($509,443) for local wine maker Cramele Recas.

E.ON plans to complete the photovoltaic (PV) plant that is expected to generate 888.64 MWh of electricity per year in August, it said in a press release.

The solar plant featuring 1,680 photovoltaic panels mounted on the rooftop of Recas wine production halls in Timis county will meet around 20% of Recas' annual energy needs and will help cut CO2 emissions by 260 tonnes per year.

"The construction of this plant is another step we are taking in order to develop an approach based on sustainability, by reducing our carbon footprint and rationally using energy in order to increase the efficiency of all activities at the winery," Cramele Recas general manager Georgiu Ioan said.

Established in 1991, Cramele Recas currently produces over 32 million litres of wine per year.

E.ON Energie Romania is an integrated supplier of gas, electricity and energy solutions.
