Hungarian utility E.ON Hungaria announced on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement to install 43 MW of solar arrays at BMW Group’s (ETR:BMW) new factory in Debrecen, north-eastern Hungary.

The utility, a member of Germany energy company E.ON SE (ETR:EOAN), said it would cover 510,000 square metres of surface in solar panels, placing them on the buildings and other areas at the car maker’s Debrecen factory. These panels will be capable of generating close to 45 GWh, or about as much to power some 20,000 households.

This will be the BMW Group’s largest solar farm, according to Hans-Peter Kemser, president and CEO of the Debrecen factory.

E.ON Hungaria will finalise the installation by the end of 2025. The BMW vehicle factory will start test production during 2024.
