Norwegian energy group Equinor ASA (NYSE:EQNR) said on Tuesday it has hired Polish architecture firm B-CA to design its future operations and maintenance (O&M) base for offshore wind on the Baltic port of Leba.

The base will have a quay for mooring vessels, a remote control centre for offshore farms, a warehouse and office space. The architecture of the buildings will fit into the local port landscape, Equinor explained. Its construction will start at the turn of 2023 and 2024 and be completed at the end of 2025.

Equinor acquired the site at the port of Leba in 2021 to serve as a service port for its Baltic Sea offshore wind farms. Together with its Polish joint venture partner Polenergia, it is developing the Baltyk III, Baltyk II and Baltyk I offshore wind projects. The proximity of Leba to their areas will optimise safety and operation costs.

Baltyk III and Batyk II, with a combined potential capacity of 1.44 GW, have already been awarded contracts for difference (CfD) by Poland’s energy regulator. Their construction could begin in 2024, Equinor said earlier.
