PGE, Ørsted lease Gdansk terminal for 1.5-GW Baltica 2 wind project
Sep 16, 2024 16:04 CESTPolenergia SA (WSE:PEP) and Norway's Equinor ASA (NYSE:EQNR) said on Tuesday they have completed a Baltic seabed survey necessary for the design and further planning of their future Baltyk II and Baltyk III offshore wind farms in Poland.
The results of the survey will help the companies to develop the final design of the foundations for about 100 wind turbines, two offshore power stations and the energy transmission infrastructure. They will also be required for obtaining the necessary building permits.
The research was carried out by a fleet of 10 vessels belonging to different contractors along a 1,000 km section for the two wind farms with a total area of some 240 sq km and cable routes of 400 km. Geotechnical data was obtained from boreholes up to 55 meters below the seabed.
"The selected method of carrying out the works will not affect the area of the beach and dunes, which will allow for the protection of plant clusters and habitats of numerous valuable species of flora and fauna," said Polenergia's environmental director, Marta Porzuczek.
Baltyk II and Baltyk III with a total capacity of 1.44 GW will be located between 37 km and 22 km from the Baltic coast. Their construction is seen to start in 2024 while electricity production is expected to begin in 2027.
