Grande Cote Operations (GCO), a subsidiary of mining and metallurgy group Eramet SA (EPA:ERA), has contracted a company to build a 13-MW solar power plant with an 8-MW battery energy storage component in Senegal.

The hybrid installation will take place at the Diogo industrial site in northwestern Senegal, where mineral sands are being produced. Commissioning is scheduled for early 2023.

The design, construction and operation of the plant will be handled by CrossBoundary Energy, which counts Juwi as an implementation partner. The facility has a 15-year distribution contract in place with regard to the renewable energy that will be generated for GCO.

Guillaume Kurek, CEO of Grande Cote Operations, commented that the new hybrid plant will have a positive effect on the environmental value of the titanium and zircon raw materials produced by the firm.
