PGE, Ørsted lease Gdansk terminal for 1.5-GW Baltica 2 wind project
Sep 16, 2024 16:04 CESTPolish builder Erbud (WSE:ERB) has been hired by Baltic Power, the developer of a 1.2-GW offshore wind project, to build its operations and maintenance base in the port of the coastal town of Leba, Baltic Power and Erbud said in separate releases on Thursday.
Works will start later this year and completion is slated for 2025, Baltic Power added.
The contract is worth PLN 50 million (USD 11m/EUR 10.4m), Erbud noted. It involves hydrotechnical works for the reconstruction of the quay and the construction of the base buildings with their infrastructure. Three or four crew transport vessels will be stationed in the facility, Baltic Power explained.
The Baltic Power wind project, jointly developed by Polish oil and gas major PKN Orlen (WSE:PKN) and Canada's Northland Power, will consist of 76 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW, to be supplied, installed and serviced for 15 years by Danish wind turbine maker Vestas.
The service base will be the centre of the wind farm's daily operation and maintenance. The project's location 23 km north of the port of Leba ensures short response time for service teams.
Erbud has 30 years of experience in construction projects, including in the power sector and hydraulic engineering in Poland and Europe, Baltic Power pointed out.
