UK sustainability consultancy ERM said this week it has started offshore trials to test key parts of its Dolphyn Hydrogen process, whose concept combines electrolysis, desalination and hydrogen production on a floating wind platform.

The trails are taking place in floating marine conditions in Pembroke Port, South Wales. They follow a six-year development process, which has been supported by over GBP 8 million (USD 10.2m/EUR 9.4m) of UK government funding.

In the Dolphyn Hydrogen process, the hydrogen produced is transported via pipeline to the coast, where it can be used directly for various purposes.

“These Dolphyn Hydrogen trials mark an important milestone in our journey to deploy affordable, low-carbon hydrogen at scale that will help to deliver a more sustainable future for all,” said Dolphyn Hydrogen CEO Steve Matthews.
