Ethiopia expands solar RfQ to 750 MW

Ethiopia expands solar RfQ to 750 MW Sunset in Ethiopia. Author: Rod Waddington.

Ethiopia’s Public-Private Partnerships Directorate General (PPP-DG) has expanded the recently launched Request for Pre-Qualification (RfQ) for solar projects from 500 MW to 750 MW.

The process now covers not four but six sites -- Weranso, Welenchiti, Humera and Mekele, as well as the newly-added Metema/Bahir Dar and Hurso.

Now, interested parties need to submit their application by July 9, 2019, rather than the previous deadline of May 29, 2019. Prospective bidders that have already registered are not required to do so again and have the right to include the two new projects, the announcement says.

This tender represents round two of the World Bank Group's Scaling Solar programme. Round one took the form of a 250-MW solar tender that is yet to announce a winner.
