Bulgaria's NEK opens tender for new turbines at pumped storage plant
Sep 18, 2024 13:50 CESTSOFIA (Bulgaria), September 27 (SeeNews) – The European Commission (EC) launched on Wednesday an infringement procedure against Bulgaria over the country’s failure to comply with EU’s Renewable Energy Directive, the EC said Thursday.
“Increasing the share of renewables to 20% by 2020 in the EU overall energy consumption is an important precondition for a more sustainable and competitive Europe,” the commission said in a statement. “Reaching this binding target relies on the commitment of each member state to fully implement the relevant EU legislation,” it added.
The directive had to be implemented by member states by December 2010. Bulgaria and Austria, however, have not informed the commission of all the necessary transposition measures for fully transposing the directive into their national legislation.
The two countries have two months to comply with their legal obligation, the commission said.
