Haffner Energy decides to spin off SAF business
Sep 13, 2024 16:01 CESTMar 27, 2012 - The city of Nantes, western France, seeks to boost the share of heating by renewable energy under a EUR 93 million (USD 124m) project.
The local authorities will not provide any funding for the project, as it will rely only on private funds.
Cofely, a company controlled by French utility GDF Suez (EPA:GSZ), has been selected for a contractor. By 2017, it will triple the capacity of the existing heating network increasing the number of its customers to 41,000 from current 16,000. The project includes the construction of two wood-fired and two gas-fired boiler plants.
The project will cover schools, administrative buildings, social housing buildings, and hospitals.
The use of biomass and wood will help Nantes cut its heating bills by 15%. The measure will also reduce significantly CO2 emissions.
