A North American subsidiary of Denmark’s European Energy A/S plans to develop 10 GW of renewables in the US by 2026, it announced on Wednesday.

EE North America, as the subsidiary is called, recently opened a new office in Austin, Texas, from which it will develop its project pipeline in the country. The company said in a statement it has bought more than 7,000 acres of land to develop its first solar projects there, including 1 GW in Texas and additional projects in the Western US.

Apart from solar, the firm also explores investments in green hydrogen and e-methanol, it added.

"European Energy views the US as a critical market for solar and wind power, as well as technologies like Power-to-X that will be essential solutions in decarbonizing the hardest-to-abate sectors of the economy," said Knud Erik Andersen, CEO of Copenhagen-based European Energy.
