Sonnedix buys 80-MW solar farm in Italy, more purchases to follow
Sep 19, 2024 14:32 CESTDanish renewables developer European Energy A/S has secured a building permit from the authorities in Sicily for what it says will become the biggest solar farm in Italy – a 250-MW project near Catania.
The company will be building the solar power plant in the municipality of Vizzini with a strong focus on sustainability. For instance, it intends to implement a comprehensive reforestation and biodiversity programme that covers 200 hectares of land and is evaluating solutions such as agrivoltaic systems.
Upon completion, the 250-MW solar park will be producing enough electricity to supply some 130,000 homes.
Alessandro Migliorini, Country Manager of European Energy Italia, stated that the company will continue to invest in Italian renewables, mainly wind and solar. It has already built a number of solar farms in the country, including the 130-MW Troia-project in the Apulia region.
