Metal and glass packaging supplier Ardagh Group SA announced today the signing of a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 100% of the electricity generated by the 161-MW Vitberget wind project in Sweden.

The contract is between Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe (AGP-Europe) and Renewable Power Capital (RPC) and has a term of 10 years, starting from 2026. According to Ardagh Group, this PPA will cover about 40% of AGP-Europe’s power load.

“Having recently opened our new NextGen Furnace at AGP in Obernkirchen, Germany, which could save approximately 45,000 tonnes of carbon annually, the impact of this PPA will be significant,” said Martin Petersson, CEO AGP-Europe. The group aims to transition to 100% renewable power by 2030.

RPC developed the Vitberget wind project as one of four parks that make up a 553-MW cluster in the Kramfors and Solleftea municipalities. Earlier this month, it ordered Nordex wind turbines for this quartet.

In this transaction, Ardagh got assistance from Schneider Electric in the project selection and PPA negotiation.
