Danish renewable project developer Eurowind Energy has installed the first of eight Siemens Gamesa turbines at its 48-MW Pecineaga wind farm project in Romania.

With the first SG 6.6-170 machine in place, the wind farm is on track to become fully operational by 2025, the Danish firm said in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday. It noted that this is the largest wind turbine generator installed in Romania so far.

Being built in Constanta County, the Pecineaga wind farm is expected to generate around 176,000 MWh of electricity per year once commissioned. The output of its 6.6-MW machines, with a rotor diameter of 170 metres and optimised to work in low wind conditions, will be enough to meet the power demand of up to 48,000 homes.

Pecineaga is Eurowind Energy’s biggest wind project in Romania. The company launched building activities in July last year and in April secured a loan worth EUR 65.3 million (USD 69.4m) from Austria’s Erste Group and Banca Comerciala Romana to back the construction.
