EU/UNDP-funded biomass energy project to cover entire Moldova by end-2013

A 14.56 million euro ($19.345 million) project co-funded by the European Union and the United National Development Programme (UNDP) aiming to boost biomass energy production in Moldova will cover the entire country by the end of 2013 as 12 more districts will join in.

"In the first two years of its activity the Energy and Biomass Project covered 20 districts and the autonomous territorial unit Gagauz Yeri after a total investment of $8.143 million and communities' contribution of $2.434 million," the UNDP said in a statement.

The Energy and Biomass project is being implemented in Moldova in the 2011-2014 period, as its budget includes 14 million euro provided by the EU and 560,000 euro in co-financing by UNDP Moldova.
