Nordex to supply 6.8-MW turbines for 68-MW German wind project
Sep 18, 2024 9:08 CESTGerman utility EWE has selected Siemens Energy AG (ETR:ENR) to supply a 280-MW PEM electrolyser and the necessary peripheral technology for a green hydrogen project in the port city of Emden, northwest Germany, slated to go into operation in 2027.
The two companies have signed an agreement that includes a 10-year service clause, EWE announced on Thursday.

Siemens Energy's technology was selected following a twelve-month process in which EWE examined ten electrolyser manufacturers worldwide in detail.
Depending on the approvals that are still pending, construction work in Emden is scheduled to begin this year.
The project is the first of four sub-projects that constitute EWE's large-scale Clean Hydrogen Coastline initiative and one of the IPCEI projects backed with federal and state funds. The funding notice for this project was granted by the federal economy ministry in mid-July.
The other three sub-projects include a 50-MW electrolysis plant in Bremen which is planned to supply green hydrogen for steel production in the region, a cavern storage facility in Huntorf and a project aimed at optimising gas pipeline infrastructure for hydrogen in the northwest.
In total, EWE plans to invest more than EUR 800 million (USD 868.08m) in the Clean Hydrogen Coastline project.
"With its hydrogen projects, EWE is active along the entire value chain, from production to transport and storage. By choosing our location in northwest Germany and opting for Siemens Energy, we are focusing on both regional and national value creation," said EWE's chief executive Stefan Dohler.
