Exergy International Srl, an Italian geothermal technology company specialising in Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems, has been selected to supply equipment for a project in the Olkaria region in Kenya that targets 67 MWe of geothermal capacity.

The company has signed a cooperation agreement with local energy leasing solution provider RentCo Africa Limited (RentCo), which is developing the project.

Exergy has been selected to provide eight ORC systems for a capacity of about 30 MWe, as well as comprehensive technical expertise in geothermal binary power plant design and maintenance, it said in a press statement published today.

The Wellhead geothermal project will utilise both Flash and ORC power plant technology.

Kenya currently has an operational geothermal capacity of 985 MW and expects to hit the 1 GWe milestone this year.
