Sonnedix buys 80-MW solar farm in Italy, more purchases to follow
Sep 19, 2024 14:32 CESTFalck Renewables SpA (BIT:FKR) will start next month the construction works on a 9.7-MW photovoltaic (PV) plant in Sicily, its first under its crowdfunding initiative in Italy.
The Landolina solar project will be built based on the agri-voltaic model -- the plant will be integrated into the local agricultural activity, specifically, the cultivation of olive, carob and almond trees, as well as medicinal herbs and polyphytic grass.
Located on a 22-hectare (54.3 acres) site in Scicli, Ragusa province, Landonila is estimated to be able to generate around 20 GWh of renewable energy, enough to meet the demand of more than 5,000 households.
Landolina is part of Falck’s “Let’s grow energy!” programme, which allows local people to benefit from the project. The Italian company has been conducting similar community ownership schemes for its UK wind farms for over 15 years, Falck added.
