Statkraft signs PPA to power Finland's Wihuri with renewables
Sep 19, 2024 10:54 CESTFinnish developer TuuliWatti Oy completed construction of Finland’s first merchant wind park in November, the company said in a news release.
The 21-MW Viinamaki wind farm in northwestern Finland achieved commissioning just three months after the first turbine went up in July.
The wind power plant consists of five V150-4.2 MW turbines by Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS). The turbines are the highest all-steel turbines to date, each measuring 175 metres tower height and a 250-metre sweep height.
The estimated output from the wind farm is expected to be significantly higher than regular turbine technology which will allow the cost of electricity generation to reach EUR 30/MWh, TuuliWatti said in the statement.
The developer, which last year generated about 21% of Finland's wind power, is also building a 6 MW electric storage facility near the Viinamäki wind farm on Simon's side, which will be completed later in the autumn.
According to French battery maker Saft Groupe SA, which was selected to deliver the energy storage system (ESS), the Li-ion ESS comes with an energy storage capacity of 6.6 MWh, split between three 2.2-MWh containers, and delivers 5.6 MW of power for frequency regulation throughout its 15-year lifetime.
