Finnish industrial operator Valmet Corp (HEL:VALMT) said today it is investing in a new pilot facility where it will conduct research and development (R&D) activities related to bioenergy, biofuels and biochemicals.

The company, which offers pulp mills, tissue, board and paper production lines, will build the new facility at its Fiber Technology Center in Sundsvall, Sweden. The start of operations at the site is expected in October 2020.

The facility will use new pilot equipment called BioTrac, incorporating a Valmet DNA control system. It will be possible to modify the equipment so that it is suitable for a variety of processes and various raw materials.

The site will enable pilot trials to be carried out with customers and partners, according to the announcement.
