The Finnish subsidiary of Swedish renewables developer Eolus Vind AB (STO:EOLU-B) will not be able to build a planned nine-turbine wind park in Suomussalmi municipality, Eastern Finland, but is continuing with some other local developments.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed for Renewables Now that while the municipality and landowners had a positive reaction to the project, the company has received a negative statement from the Finnish Defence Forces.

At present, Eolus Finland does not have operational wind farms in the country but is working on establishing both wind and solar. As of end-September 2022, its local project portfolio included 25 MW of solar in the early phase of development and the 125-MW Portom wind project in Narpes with a commercial operation date (COD) scheduled for 2025.

As previously reported, the company has teamed up with Irish firm Simply Blue Group to develop four floating offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea, including two off the Finnish coast. According to the spokesperson, these are the 2,000-MW Wellamo and 1,500-MW Tuulia projects.
