The first set of turbines that will power the Neom green hydrogen and ammonia production complex in Saudi Arabia have arrived at the Port of Neom, the project developer announced on Tuesday.

The machines by China’s Envision Energy are now being transported by road to a site near the Gulf of Aqaba where they will be assembled and installed. Additional hardware will be shipped by the end of the year for the Wind Garden park.

Wind Garden is planned to be switched on by 2026 to produce electricity for a mega complex at Oxagon, in Saudi Arabia’s northwestern province of Tabuk, which will produce 600 tonnes of green hydrogen daily. The hub’s commissioning should take place by the end of 2026.

Neom Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC), a joint venture between ACWA Power, NEOM, and Air Products, is behind the USD-8.4-billion (EUR 7.87bn) project. US-based Air Products is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor and exclusive off-taker of green ammonia under a 30-year agreement.

Germany’s Thyssenkrupp Nucera AG & Co KGaA has been selected to supply the electrolysers for the 2.2-GW hydrogen-to-ammonia facility, which will source electricity from up to 4 GW of solar and wind capacity.
