First Hydrogen Corp (CVE:FHYD) has finalised land option agreements in Quebec that will pave the way for the construction of an up-to-35-MW green hydrogen production facility and an assembly site for its zero-emission light commercial vehicles (LCVs).

As previously announced, the company has chosen to build the plants in the City of Shawinigan and thus form its first green hydrogen ecosystem. The plan is to produce the green molecules locally for distribution within the Montreal-Quebec City corridor to serve both its own hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered vehicles (FCEV) and third-party vehicles in the region.

When it comes to the vehicle assembly site, First Hydrogen intends to build a facility with the capacity to produce 25,000 FCEVs per year, to be distributed throughout North America in combination with the company's Hydrogen-as-a-Service product offering, it said in a statement, noting that it targets the commercial van market and LCV sector in particular.

An announcement from May says that feasibility engineering for the new sites is expected to be completed by mid-2024, enabling full project commercialisation by 2026-2027.

Also this week, First Hydrogen said it has delivered an FCEV to UK utility SSE Plc in Aberdeen, Scotland where it will undergo real-world trials. SSE is the first utility to trial the company's FCEV, it pointed out.
