First Hydrogen picks city in Quebec for 50-MW green H2 eco-system project

First Hydrogen Corp (CVE:FHYD) today announced plans for its first green hydrogen eco-system that will involve the installation of up to 50 MW of electrolysers in the Canadian province of Quebec and the local assembly of zero-emission commercial vehicles.

The company, which is getting ready to unveil its next-generation hydrogen fuel cell-powered light commercial vehicles (LCVs) in the coming weeks, said in a statement that it chose the City of Shawinigan for its maiden project. It has carried out site evaluations and has now formally initiated the process to secure and develop respective sites for the local production of green hydrogen and vehicle assembly. The annual capacity of the assembly facility is expected to be 25,000 vehicles.

The idea is to produce green hydrogen for distribution within the Montreal-Quebec City corridor. The output will be used with its own LCVs but will also support other hydrogen-fuelled vehicles and applications in the region.

"We are seeing strong market support for our holistic product offering of zero-emission LCVs and green hydrogen. Customer pull combined with strong Quebec and Canadian policy support has convinced us that now is the time to move forward with this first project,” said Balraj Mann, chairman and CEO of First Hydrogen. He added that the company plans to start engineering studies early next year.
