First section of Germany's largest solar canopy goes online

Automotive logistic service provider Mosolf Group has put the first section of a 16-MWp solar parking lot into operation in the German state of Saxony on behalf of Hyundai Motor Deutschland.

The section that has been completed has a capacity of 7.3 MWp and offers space for up to 2,600 vehicles, Hyundai said in a press release. The electricity produced by the solar panels is fed into the power grid of the municipal utility.

The solar canopy is located at Mosolf Group's compound in the Rackwitz municipality. Once fully operational in the second quarter of next year, the plant will be Germany's largest solar canopy, featuring more than 35,000 solar modules and providing a roof for a total of up to 6,000 vehicles. The logistics terminal will be used for Hyundai's TUCSON and i30 models.

Speaking at the opening ceremony for the plant, Hyundai Motor Deutschland's managing director Juergen Keller highlighted the importance of the solar parking lot which has a strategic location with a view of Hyundai's nearby plant in Nosovice, the Czech Republic.

Rhineland-Palatinate-based project developer Sybac on Power GmbH is in charge of the construction and operation of the solar park.
