Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe first turbine has been erected at the 50-MW Tsetsii wind farm in southern Mongolia, UK energy services company John Wood Group PLC (LON:WG) said today.
The wind farm, located in the Gobi desert, will feature 25 Vestas V90 2.0MW turbines and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2017.
Wood Group said its clean energy business, previously SgurrEnergy, is supporting the project as the owner's engineer for the construction phase. It has been hired by Clean Energy Asia, a joint venture between Mongolia’s Newcom Group and Japan's Softbank Energy.
The company's clean energy team is now providing project management support, site monitoring, design and technical reviews, and factory acceptance test witnessing as the owner's engineer. Wood Group also provided services during the feasibility and pre-construction phases.
"With winter temperatures dropping to -40°C (-40°F) and summer temperatures rising to 45°C (113°F) it is safe to say Mongolia’s climate as well as the wind farm’s remote location presented a number of challenges that we are pleased to have worked through," said Brian Macdonald, implementation team leader at Wood Group.
The Tsetsii wind park is the second of its kind in Mongolia after Salkhit wind farm, which was inaugurated in 2014.
