First wind turbines installed at Trianel's Borkum offshore wind farm

Jul 30, 2013 - German municipal utility cooperative Trianel GmbH said on Monday the first wind turbines at its offshore Borkum wind farm had already been installed.

The wind farm will consist of a total of 40 Areva wind turbines with a capacity of 5 MW each.

Another two turbines are expected to be installed by the end of the current week, Trianel said.

The offshore wind farm is expected to be brought to operation at the end of 2013.

The opening of the first construction phase of the 40 wind turbines with a total capacity of 200 MW was originally planned to take place at the end of 2012, but Dutch Tennet, the power grid operator in charge of connecting offshore wind farms to the German grid, announced delays in the connection of the wind farm.

However, Trianel will receive compensation payments from Tennet in the medium double-digit million euro range.

In addition to Trianel, a total of 33 municipal utilities and energy suppliers from Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland have a stake in Borkum.
