EC nods to EUR-682m offshore wind support scheme in Belgium
Sep 16, 2024 9:22 CESTSep 19, 2013 - Renewable sources accounted for 10% of the total power generation in the Belgian region of Flanders in 2012, up from 7% a year earlier, according to a media report.
Renewable power generation itself surged by 40% year-on-year, De Morgen daily reported citing a note of the region's energy minister Freya Van den Bossche.
At present, biomass accounts for the largest percentage of the generated renewable electricity in Flanders -- 43%. Solar power generation follows with a 28% share.
Since the start of the current legislature, the production of renewable power in Flanders has doubled, the minister said. Solar panels account for the biggest jump here -- 71%, biogas is second with an increase of 39% and biomass and wind follow with 31% and 21%, respectively.
According to Van den Bossche, Flanders is well on track to achieve its future environmental goals.
