US energy storage provider Fluence Energy Inc (NASDAQ:FLNC) has begun domestic production of its battery modules at a facility in Utah, enabling the company’s products to take advantage of the Inflation Reduction Act’s domestic content bonus tax credit.

The domestically manufactured battery modules will incorporate battery cells produced in Tennessee.

“Our proactive approach to securing US-manufactured battery cells and rapid initiation of module production has provided us with an advantage in delivering a storage solution that allows our customers to capture the Inflation Reduction Act’s domestic content bonus tax credit,” said John Zahurancik, Fluence president, Americas. He added the company is moving quickly to deliver domestically manufactured energy storage solutions that meet its customers’ needs, reduce supply chain risks for projects and support the US’ energy independence.

The need for a strong domestic supply chain is highlighted by recently announced increases in Section 301 tariffs on batteries imported from China, Fluence noted.

The Arlington, Virginia-based company recently announced a deal with Excelsior Energy Capital to install 2.2 GWh of energy storage projects employing domestically manufactured battery systems across the US, starting in 2025.
