Fortis Energy buys 180-MW solar-plus-storage project in Serbia

Turkish renewables company Fortis Energy announced today the acquisition of a 180 MW solar project, coupled with a 36-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), in Serbia.

The solar farm will be located in the city of Sremska Mitrovica and construction works at the site are scheduled to begin in 2025, the company noted in a press statement.

“This strategic investment strengthens Fortis's commitment to paving the path of the energy transition,” the Turkish company said.

Fortis is already working on four solar sites, three of which feature storage, in Serbia with a combined capacity of 500 MWp, a document titled Portfolio 2024 shows on its website.

In addition, the company had a pipeline of 509.4 MW of wind farm projects under development as of the end of May. It also owns a 3-MW operational biogas facility in Dolovo.
