Four shortlisted to bid on Ecuador's contract for new transmission system

Four companies from Spain, Peru and Colombia were pre-qualified to bid on the Ecuador government’s contract to deliver and operate a transmission system in the north-east of the country on a concession basis.

The shortlisted companies are Celeo Redes SLU, Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios SA in a consortium with Cymi Construcoes e Partipacoes SA, Interconexion Electrica Peru SA ESP ISA and Electricas de Medellin Ingenieria y Servicios SAS, said Ecuador’s ministry of energy and mining, renamed recently from the ministry of energy and non-renewable natural resources.

About a month ago, the ministry said that four companies from the three countries had submitted expressions of interest in the tendering process, but did not name them at the time.

In the next stage, the shortlisted four will visit the project site, and submit further documents and offers. The award is due to be announced on January 23, 2023.

The bidders will compete for a 30-year concession to design, finance, build and operate the Nororiental transmission system through which cleaner and renewable electricity can be sent from the national SNI grid to the isolated network that powers oil producers in the north-east of Ecuador. The project, valued at USD 386 million (EUR 361.3m), will entail the construction of 290 kilometres (180.2 miles) of power lines, three transmission sub-systems and six new substations.
