CIP completes construction of 300-MW Taiwanese offshore wind farm
Sep 05, 2024 9:51 CESTSwedish Alfa Laval Group's (STO:ALFA) pumping systems unit Framo has been hired to provide suction bucket pumping systems for the foundations of a 920-MW wind farm complex built by Danish energy group Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) off the coast of Taiwan.
The structures will be manufactured at Framo’s factory at Flatoy outside Bergen in Norway and will be delivered in early 2025. The Nordic company, in partnership with geotechnical expertise from the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, will also oversee and manage the suction operation at sea.
The technology selected for the Greater Changhua Offshore Wind Project is described as a better option for difficult and variable soil conditions and secures faster installation and a more environmentally friendly approach, Framo said in a statement published today.
The two companies have already partnered before. Back in 2018, Framo and NGI installed 20 suction bucket jackets at Ørsted’s wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 2 off the coast of Lower Saxony.
The planned Greater Changhua Offshore Wind Project comprises the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 projects located 35 - 60 km from the Changhua coast in Taiwan. Ørsted is currently seeking a partner for the project and last month announced that local insurer Cathay Life Insurance has been selected as the preferred bidder for the acquisition of a 50% stake in the Greater Changhua 4 project.
