Infener to set up 20-MW green hydrogen hub in Germany
Sep 17, 2024 14:59 CESTHydrogene de France SA (EPA:EDF) is bringing its green hydrogen-based power-to-power solution to Greece, where it has just set up a branch, called HDF Greece, in Athens.
The French company, also known as HDF Energy, said in an announcement on Monday that its investment strategy in the country will revolve around establishing its proprietary Renewstable power-to-power plants in de-lignitisation areas where they can aid in the decommissioning of conventional power plants, and non-interconnected islands.

Renewstables are a proprietary power generation solution that combines an intermittent renewable energy source, production and storage of electrolytic hydrogen, and a lithium-ion battery. As such, they are in line with “Renewable energy projects of totally controlled electrical generation” as defined in Article 2.14 of Greece's Law 4414/2016, HDF Energy said.
Furthermore, Renewstables can provide the same grid services as conventional thermal power plants, such as black start and island mode.
“Greece's energy market is mature, but the high renewable energy target and limitations in deployment caused by grid constraints arising from the intermittency of classical renewables, as well as the challenges faced by fossil fuel-reliant islands, necessitate innovative solutions and collocated storage,” according to the French hydrogen energy plants developer.
