Fred. Olsen 1848 on Thursday said that its Brunel floating offshore wind foundation has been awarded basic design certification by technical assurance service provider DNV.

Fred. Olsen 1848, focused on renewables innovation and technology, is part of the Fred. Olsen group of companies owned by Norway’s Bonheur ASA (OSE:BONHR).

The completion of the basic design is a step towards a final site-specific design as part of project certification.

"This certification module has been a follow up from the concept certification performed in 2022 and has shown that Brunel has matured. We are looking forward to continued certification of Brunel in the next development phases," said Anne Lene Haukanes Hopstad, DNV’s project manager.

The Brunel foundation features a semi-submersible structure and dual towers with a forward-leaning-angle.

During the design process, Fred. Olsen 1848 partnered with Ramboll, which served as an independent engineering consultant for the foundation. Seasystems provided mooring- and turret technologies, MOOG Focal - high-voltage swivels and 7Waves contributed expertise on primary steel design.
