Norwegian offshore contractor Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has been awarded the installation of the first batch of turbines for the 1.5-GW Baltica 2 offshore wind projects in Poland.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has been contracted by the project’s developer, a partnership between Polish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (WSE:PGE) and Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED), to install 48 of 107 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines. The company will mobilise one of its special purpose-built jack-up installation vessels for the project during the spring of 2027.

“Considering the challenges facing the offshore wind industry globally, we are particularly proud that we are consistently and according to plan signing further agreements with experienced market players, which bring us closer to the implementation of Baltica 2 […],” said Agata Staniewska-Bolesta, managing director of Ørsted Offshore Poland.

Baltica 2 is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. Together with Baltica 3, expected to be delivered by 2030, it will form the 2.5-GW Baltica offshore wind farm. The project remains subject to final investment decision.

The installation of Baltica 2’s turbines has been split into two stages, with a contractor for each of them selected in separate tender procedure.
