Deutsche Windtechnik wins turbines maintenance contract in Sweden
Sep 19, 2024 14:55 CESTMainstream Renewable Power and Swedish floating wind specialist Hexicon AB (STO:HEXI) have received a positive recommendation for their Mareld floating wind project, which will add up to 2.5 GW of capacity in Swedish waters.
The Administrative Board in Vastra Gotaland County has recommended the scheme for approval to the Swedish government, with certain modifications, Hexicon said on Wednesday.
The two developers, through their joint venture Freja Offshore AB, have proposed to install the offshore park off the western Swedish coast, around 40 km west of Lysekil Municipality in Vastra Gotaland near the Norway-Denmark border. Once in operation, the complex is expected to generate around 12 TWh of electricity annually for the Swedish grid, supporting Western Sweden amid the anticipated increase in electricity demand by 2030.
The JV partners launched their proposal in April last year.
"We have made adjustments to the offshore wind park to ensure coexistence with other important societal interests, aiming for the best possible outcome," said Carl Dandanell, CEO of Freja Offshore.
The floating wind project is expected to bring down electricity prices and enhance the region’s industrial sector.
