Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTOct 2, 2013 - The French government has hinted at the possibility of launching a third offshore wind tender next year.
France's energy ministry is working to secure new offshore wind power volumes and projects in 2014, ecology minister Philippe Martin told yesterday a seminar organised by local renewable energy union SER. The minister, however, did not elaborate on the capacity and the location of the farms.
According to unnamed sources cited by news agency AFP, possible locations are off Dunkirk, Aquitaine or Brittany.
The first government tender awarded the installation of 2,000 MW offshore wind power capacity, while the ongoing second tender calls for projects with a total capacity of 1,000 MW. France has set to achieve an installed wind offshore capacity of 6,000 MW by 2020, when 23% of its gross final energy consumption should be generated from renewable energy sources.
