French solar power company Generale du Solaire and investment fund Arborescence Capital have signed a pact to build a number of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in Cameroon totalling 300 MW.

The pair has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the financing, construction and operation of the projects with the country’s ministry of energy, local media said on Friday.

They will start with a 20-MW installation valued at XAF 18 billion (USD 29.9m/EUR 27.4m), to be located in the region of Adamaoua, the northern part of the country. The initial project will create 50 direct jobs.

Construction work will begin once a power purchase agreement (PPA) is inked with local utility Eneo and is expected to last six months. This means that if the off-take contract is signed on time, the 20-MW solar park could be up and running by the end of the year.
