Fuel cells and distributed power generation solutions provider FuelCell Energy Inc (NASDAQ:FCEL) and a renewables unit of Nigerian energy group Oando Plc (JSE:OAO) have unveiled a plan to build a power plant with a capacity of 5 MW to 15 MW in the African country.

FuelCell has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oando Clean Energy Limited (OCEL), the renewable energy subsidiary of Oando Energy Resources (OER), according to a statement released on Monday.

Apart from the fuel cell and electrolyser delivery by FuelCell, the pact may also see the provision of FuelCell’s carbon capture and sequestration technologies that can produce power while simultaneously capturing carbon dioxide.

The MoU is aligned with OCEL’s push to strengthen electricity access in African markets via renewable energy sources starting in its home country, Nigeria.
