Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul agrees green hydrogen pact
Sep 19, 2024 11:42 CESTFuella AS, a Norway-based company backed by Allianz Capital Partners, has reserved a significant area within the hydrogen hub at Porto do Acu in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro where it plans to build an up-to-520-MW green ammonia plant.
The green hydrogen and ammonia projects developer has signed a land reservation agreement with Prumo, the economic group responsible for the strategic development of the port complex. In addition, the two have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the project, which is expected to produce 400,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year for both domestic use and export.

A final investment decision is expected within the next four years, with the plant anticipated to become operational by 2030, the Brazilian firm announced in a recent statement.
“The development of this plant will contribute to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable energy. We have a prepared ecosystem and competitive advantages for the production of green hydrogen and ammonia, both for export and to supply the Brazilian market," said Mauro Andrade, executive director of business development at Prumo.
The agreed partnership marks Fuella’s first project in Brazil as well as the first area reservation contract for the future hub which will span one million square metres (10.7 million sq ft).
