Dutch geo-data specialist Fugro NV (AMS:FUR) said Thursday it has secured a site characterisation contract for an offshore wind project in Japan that is being developed by a consortium of RWE AG (ETR:RWE), Mitsui & Co Ltd (TYO:8031) and Osaka Gas Co Ltd (TYO:9532).

The consortium was selected to deliver the 684-MW fixed-bottom offshore wind farm off Japan’s west coast at the end of 2023.

The project is located off the coast of the cities of Murakami and Tainai in Niigate Prefecture. Fugro started fieldwork in May, using its jack-up platform, the Amberjack, and two of its vessels, the Equator and the Mariner. The data collected will support the detailed design of future turbine foundations and cable routes.

“Fugro has been established in Japan for more than 30 years, and RWE is a key global client of ours,” remarked Jerry Paisley, Fugro’s Regional Sales Director.
