Dutch geo-data specialist Fugro NV (AMS:FUR) said today it has completed a four-year survey programme in New Jersey and New York for offshore wind developer Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind, a joint venture between Shell New Energies US LLC and a subsidiary of EDF Renewables North America.

The activities supported the site assessment of five projects across the developer’s three lease areas and contributed to the recent federal green light for the 2,800-MW Atlantic Shores South, Fugro added.

The company explained that while offshore wind site assessments have traditionally required multiple campaigns to collect oceanographic, seabed, soil and habitat data, it has streamlined this into a single programme aligned with Atlantic Shores’ portfolio strategy. In addition, to manage the large amount of data, Fugro and Atlantic Shores developed a cloud-based platform that facilitates faster decision making through real-time project information. The platform also supported the first digital deliverables to federal regulators.

According to the announcement, the novel data collection and management approach increased survey efficiency by 30%.

In July, Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind announced its participation in New Jersey’s fourth offshore wind solicitation.
