US solar shingle provider GAF Energy on Wednesday said it has completed construction of its manufacturing facility in Georgetown, Texas, with full operation scheduled for the end of the year.

The plant will produce the company’s Timberline Solar product, which is described as the world’s first nailable solar shingle and integrates with traditional shingles.

The Georgetown facility will boost GAF Energy’s solar shingle production capacity by 500% to 300 MW a year, which, according to the announcement, will make the company the world’s largest producer of solar roofing. GAF Energy, part of privately-held global industrial company Standard Industries, has a research and development (R&D) and manufacturing facility in San Jose, California.

In Texas, GAF Energy has already hired more than 75 people in manufacturing, supply chain, logistics and other roles. When operating at full capacity, the Georgetown facility will employ more than 240 people.
