Gamesa plans wind projects in Maldives, Myanmar

Jul 6, 2012 - Gamesa India, the local unit of Spanish wind turbine maker Gamesa (MCE:GAM), is to enter the wind power market in the Maldives and Myanmar, The Hindu Business Line said Thursday, citing chairman and managing director.

On the sidelines of the 11th Green Power 2012 conference, Ramesh Kymal told the daily that the company was eying wind projects of 100 MW to 150 MW in the Maldives, while it was still in the exploratory phase in Myanmar. Kymal noted that Myanmar was touted as a major wind power market with its high wind speeds.

To date, Gamesa has installed 800 MW of wind in India, which equals and investment of some INR 54 billion (USD 974m/EUR 787m). The company already has an order backlog of 900 MW until 2013. In India's fiscal 2014/15 through March, Gamesa is planning to erect 1,000 MW of turbines.
